WordCamp Iloilo 2018

Here are my personal experiencing attending WordPress Camp Iloilo last August 25, 2018. This techie event was the first WordPress camp in Western Visayas and was held in a posh venue, the Iloilo Convention Centre (ICC).

One of my jobs since 2010 is an online marketer. I’ve been working for clients who not just wanted to create a design-informed website, but to build substantial content that will help them reach their target audience.

Another reason I attended WordCamp Iloilo was to see the Megaworld District upclose and personal, and appreciate the urban architectures they have built.

As a blogger / real estate sales person, I always seek for ways to study from good examples of developments. That’s why I came to see an event held inside ICC.

One time, when I was working with WordPress, I was able to notice the announcement from the WordPress Dashboard announcements. I was led the WP Iloilo 2018 website and was able to sign-up.

Was one of the first people to sign up. I got an award in exchange – a grey t-shirt with a minimal, blue Digital Ocean print.

The speakers were a diverse line-up. There’s from Google, legal field, freelancing, Amazon and students.

After lunch, we broke up into 3 groups:

* WP Security
* WP Design
* WP development
Th large hall had pull-off dividers which made the seminar set-up quick,.

I think the biggest group was students. One of my seat mates was a masteral student from ISAT and a Guimaras government employee.

Also met a previous colleague who was working at the Iloilo Hall of Justice. Together with her team, they attended. I appreciate how diverse the community was – both beginners, intermediate, bloggers and hard core programmers.

Appreciated how this event also acted as an evangelistic tool to promote the blogging hobby.

Just then and there I appreciate the difference and advantage of blogging or WordPress in particular with reverse-order social media.

I appreciate the food because they were well prepared. We were asked of our preference weeks before. We had the option to selectt hypo-allergenic food which I selected. I had vegetables, beef, fish fillet and beef. The other option had chicken and some seafood.

Food was prepacked in a styro packaging. Lunch time was 11:30am to 1pm. Break time allowed a window for networking.

Materials and freebies

I like how the organisers orchestrated all components, sponsors and dynamics together. I got these:
* ID with prints of program and 2 doughnut coupons
* Free flowing coffee
* 2 stickers
* One canvas bag
* One t-shirt (limited edition / early registration)

Networking time
After the break-up seminars, one can choose to enjoy the after party, exchanging of cards and more food. Some opted to tour the Megaworld district. I chose to return home and resume my online marketing job.
