It always stirs my curiosity why people are drawn to innovation. Well, not certainly that all are receptive to change, but that we as a society would reward innovative concepts by principle and by practice.
I was watching Tim Keller’s Youtube video in Google headquarters, and one employee surfaced to ask him about evolution vs creation. Keller stretched out that society could not survive in an evolutionary society where survival and greed prevail. The inquirer then refutes that greed and competition could not just be the case, but instead, a collective cooperation and unity among the primordial species.
In theory, Darwin subscribers would then incur innovation as a tool of survival of our specie. Hence, our cerebral and natural bent will be towards questioning the status quo.
On the other hand, in my preconceived and unexhaustive assessment, I propose that it could not have been possible. Darwinistic or Evolutionary perspective of innovation could not breed a sustained history of progress.
First, self-centricism or what is termed as anthropocentrism cannot establish a stable community. A throne is only established by wisdom and sacrifices, and where there is an unrestrained reign of self, there would be no amalgamation or integration of society.
Second, innovation can only be achieved when an innovator is empowered for the good of others, not merely of one’s own agenda. The possibility of the innovator doing the project with an upward perspective is also an inclusion. An inspiration for a reward or future recognition from a Supreme Being has been, and will always be, a prime factor on remarkable stakes of sacrifice, investments and perseverance. Most especially, on top of all, honesty. There will be no, or at least, lesser honesty, if a society does not hold on to an idea of accountability or future judgment. Only then, can someone work honestly, truthfully and meaningfully if there is an awareness of a Higher assessment.
Third, I would argue that a more a society becomes selfless and accountable, the more the the people are encouraged to innovate.
As a Filipino, I have seen that in our blood runs a lesser bent to innovate and take risk, and would rather put hopes on a “Colonizer” for economic security. Well, I don’t mean to say that’s not right, but I point to the fact that our cultural makeup comprise of behaviors adopted from a so called “higher civilization” of the past.
And Take the case of the recent 2016 Nobel Prize for Economics awardees who provided valuable contributions to contract theory- emphasizing the importance of agreements, which further reveals how untrustworthy man is without a legal premise and accountability. People and feelings change, that’s why a stable and binding document containing Word/ Idea / Covenant is a need of every hour.
So in this third reason, I point that innovation or the lack of it is inherited and that there accountability is a human much more a sociological need.
Upon stating three reasons, although not exhaustively, that would exclude a possible opposing view, I would submit that the source of our innovative instincts were replicated from a Higher Being who created human beings at the first place.
Google maps out the Latin origins of innovation as in-novare, meaning, to put something inside a new being or to make alterations.
On the other side, innovation considers these parameters:
-To upset the status quo
-To change the thinking of the masses
The origin is no other than the Creator Himself, and we can see how He innovated even from the very beginning. He moved upon the face of disorder and created meaning, light and order out of it, and through His Word.
The case for the existence of an Innovative-Creator is further supported by the fact that man is an appreciator of beauty, order and truth. Innovation is always towards these ends. One has to innovate a current system from less order to more order, from less transparency to more truth and progress, and from horribleness to beauty.
People who are impassioned towards innovation can be called entrepreneurs. And they are those who have a foresight of the future need and prepare their present resources to meet those needs.
Entrepreneurs aren’t just in the realm of business, but they are everywhere in all walks of life, creating meaning, light and order out of the mess. I submit the theory that the more a society is transformed towards the Image of the Creator, the more it becomes innovative and entrepreneurial.
I accumulated much more insights and created this Ebook which is available in Amazon Kindle.
