How to Thrive in College

A. What is College
It’s where you make one of the most important decisions you’ll ever make- Career. Besides Salvation and Spouse.
College could be short but it gives lifetime consequences. It is the launching pad of our lives.
Don’t waste your college. It is a rare season of our lives. We have the time to learn with support.
Don’t waste your life.
  1. Am I really loved?
  2. What is my purpose in life? What is the purpose bigger than myself?
I. Grow in Faith
-Don’t just survive but thrive
-develop strong roots
-some discover faith in college, some abandon it.
-I Timothy 4:12
Let no one despise your youth but thou an example to the believers in words, in conduct. Be steadfast in love in faith and purity.
Biblical Faith through the Biblical knowledge…
-what we sow, we reap
-to be quick to repent when we stumble
-guard your heart with all diligence for out of it flows the spring of life (Prov 4:23)
II. Love the Lord your God
One of the biggest questions college have is “Am I Loved?”
-College is the time for you to begin, to discover the answer to this question
-Where will you find love? Where is the love?

-We are created for the purpose of loving God
-We didn’t lived our purpose
-We live unsatisfying life
-We deserve penalty
-Yet He loves sinners
-So how to love God? It’s to see that He loved us first.
“We love Him because He first loved us”
-with all your mind is to be captivated by this thought of His love
III. Walk with the Wise
-You may feel lonely and sad, but be intentional in cultivating relationships that lead you to Christ
“Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm”
-College is a time to establish life-long friendships
Don’t just attend church. Join the church.
-Pursue relationships that help you put away childishness, grow in maturity, make wise decisions
-College is a time to practice self-discipline, to be good stewards of time and money
-to learn that recreation is a gift from God and that recreation empowers us for our work rather than distracting us from our work.
IV. Discover your Calling and Make a Difference
-Biggest questions
as a student, remember that your work is learning/ studying  so that in your lifetime you can pursue loving God, identify problems, solve problems, discover falsehoods and communicate effectively
-College is an opportunity to make a difference in the world- to Teach and demonstrate the Lordship of God in every area of life
-this is a time to discover and develop the gifts God has given you so that you can serve other people and Glorify God
Conclusion
What is the biggest problem in thriving?
Amidst all, it’s our heart.
That stubborn, evil, wicked, hardened heart. A heart that loves darkness.
What’s the solution? A Broken Heart. A heart like that of Mary Magdalene when she was about to be stoned to death, a heart like the Publican who cannot look up to heaven…
Bring that heart to the Lord, and say, Lord here’s my heart, break it, and make it years.
Only hearts that are resting in Jesus are able to embrace all of life, with its thrills and heartbreaks, ups and downs, with the calmness and courage of one whose life is secure because it’s tucked away with Jesus above.
