People sometimes say that “money is the root of all evil,” — this is a false teaching. The Bible does not say that. It is the “love of money” which is the root of all evil. (1 Tim. 6:10). In reality, there are poor societies that are greedy lovers of money. There are rich societies that are selfless of their money.
In fact, money is fundamentally good because it is a human invention that sets us apart from animals and enables us to fulfill man’s calling of subduing the earth.
The 10th Law reveals that covetousness is a serious sin. The Law-giver knows that once covetousness dwells in a heart, the rest of the 9 follows: Idolatry, stealing, overworking, lying, murdering…
The problem is not money, it’s the heart that handles that money. Money does not change a person, it only reveals what is in his heart.
